1.Bela Krajina
Is one of the hottest destinations in Slovenia. Located close to the Croatian border, Bela Krajina is a perfect place to relax and unwind. It is famous for its unspoilt nature and fresh air. You won’t find any McDonald or Starbucks here- every shop and restaurant is local. The food at Bela Krajina is made from organic ingredients, making it one of the most eco-friendly destinations in Europe.
2.Podcetrtek
To the East of Slovenia, is the lovely municipality of Podcetrtek. It is a great spot for easy hiking and relaxing in one of the spas. In the evenings sample wine from local wineries and eat some delicious Slovenian food. Podcetrtek is still sightly off the beaten tourist track making it one of the better spots to visit in the country.
3.Old Town in Ljubljana
The capital city is certainly the most famous place in Slovenia. The Old Town of Ljubljana should not be missed – with great monuments, lovely canals and the beautiful castle upon the hill. When the weather is good you can see the Julian Alps from here!
4.Piran
Even though Slovenia has less than 50 kilometres of coastline, its’ beaches accommodate every holiday-maker. Piran is the best Slovenian town for a dip, with access to the Adriatic Sea. If crystal clear waters are not enough to tempt you the beautiful Old Town certainly will. This is a place that simply cannot be missed.
5.Predjama castle
The castle of Predjama is unique on a world scale. Built within a cave mouth a few hundred years ago, Predjamski Grad is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Slovenia. Gaining greater fame after being featured in the Hollywood movie with Jackie Chan- Armour of God.
6.Maribor
Located in Northeastern Slovenia, Maribor is the second largest city in the country, with a little less than 100,000 inhabitants. It has a lovely Old Town and is a perfect destination for the one-day trip from Ljubljana.
7.Ptuj
The oldest town in Slovenia is only a 15 minute ride away from Maribor. Also with an Old Town quarter the castle of Putj located a short hike uphill affords one of the best views in the country.
8.Bohinj
Bohinj is a small town located in Triglav National Park, in Northern Slovenia, and boasts the biggest permanent lake in the country. With Alpine climate, high mountains and beautiful nature, Bohinj is one of the most picturesque parts of Slovenia.
9. Metelkova street
Metelkova street is unique on a global scale, located in the heart of Ljubljana, it has earned its title of The city in the city. An autonomous region, popular among artists and musicians, the city is definitely worth a visit for the 7 different kinds of music developed here, the incredible street art and the chance to mix with a wide range subcultures.
10. Bled
Most guidebooks on Slovenia mention Bled as the top place to visit. No wonder why- with a crystal clear lake, another beautiful castle set upon the hill and the Alpine climate, it is a perfect tourist destination.
